Electromobility in Paraguay – What Progress Has Been Made, and What Do We Know About It?
In recent months, different government institutions and energy companies have announced new measures and launched initial projects. Here is an overview of the most relevant developments, as reported by various media outlets.
ANDE introduces its own electric vehicles
According to Agencia IP
and Radio Nacional
, the Administración Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE)
has added a fleet of 23 fully electric vehicles to its operations. These vehicles will be used for the institution’s daily activities.
As reported by La Nación
and Radio Nacional
, each vehicle is equipped with an onboard charger of approximately 7 kW and has a driving range of around 500 kilometers per charge.
Plans for fast charging stations
ABC Color
, La Tribuna
, and Mobility Portal
report that ANDE is planning to install 30 ultra fast charging stations with a capacity of 150 kilowatts. Each station would be able to charge two vehicles simultaneously in about 15 minutes.
The chargers are expected to be strategically located along Paraguay’s main national routes, both in the eastern and western regions, to ensure broad coverage.
Legal and strategic frameworks
According to information from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES
) and Agencia IP
, Paraguay has already developed several documents that provide the legal and organizational basis for electromobility. These include:
A National Electromobility Strategy
A “Master Plan for Electromobility in Public and Logistic Transport”
And the “Plan Maestro de Movilidad Eléctrica”
The “Ruta Verde”
One of the most visible projects is the “Ruta Verde”, as reported by Itaipú Binacional
. In cooperation with the Parque Tecnológico Itaipú (PTI
), charging stations are being installed along Route PY02, which connects Asunción with Ciudad del Este and Hernandarias.
The goal is to make it possible to travel across Paraguay’s most important highway with electric vehicles.
Private and semi public initiatives
Private actors are also contributing to the expansion of charging infrastructure. According to ABC Color
, the company Enex has already installed charging points in Asunción. Additional efforts are being carried out in cooperation with Petropar and the Entidad Binacional Yacyretá (EBY
).
Summary
Reports from various media outlets show that electromobility is becoming an increasingly relevant topic in Paraguay. From ANDE’s electric fleet to the planned ultra-fast charging network, the “Ruta Verde,” and private initiatives, the first steps toward a sustainable mobility future are taking shape.
